POV

From 16 March to 27 April 2024, KAIROS hosted “POV”, a group exhibition curated by Can Akgümüş, bringing together works by 18 artists.

Perspective has been a fundamental tool in art for creating depth and the illusion of space. Yet our point of view is not only about how we see the world, but also how we position ourselves within it. “POV” reconsiders the traditional boundaries of perspective through a queer lens, creating a space that liberates the encounter between viewer and artwork while reflecting the diverse dimensions and positions of a new world.

My works in the exhibition, “Like Father Like Son 1, 2”, draw on memories from my teenage years. The fear that my father would discover the naked bodies I cut from magazines and newspapers and hid under the carpet and bed gradually became a fetish for me. Even then, I learned through myself that there was always something more behind what appeared on the surface. Over time, this led me to pursue the secrets hidden by members of my own family.
